Hello there! Are you one of our current or past members? If yes, do please have a look on your shelf or email us to find out if you might have one of our 224 overdue loans (as of 13 May 2026). We do not ask late fees though donations are always welcome, as our interest lies in the books returning to stay available to all our members and visitors. Please do not feel afraid of returning a book just because it is late, all our librarians can attest that this regularly happens to us to and no one will be upset- in fact we will be extremely excited to see any title we though lost!

ABOUT MEMBERSHIP OF THE LoA
Membership is available to all who live within a reasonable distance of the Library, being that distance which allows them easily to return books. Special arrangements may be made by the Trustees on application from scholars living at a greater distance.
There are three categories of membership:
Life Membership can be acquired by paying five hundred pounds or more at any one time. It is also awarded gratis to local scholars of particular eminence. It provides the same facilities as Annual Research Membership.
Annual “Research” membership costs thirty seven pounds per year and runs for one year from the date of joining. It allows the member to borrow up to six non-reference items concurrently for up to three weeks each, and provides four newsletters per year.
Concessionary “Student” membership is available to those who are prefer to pay less for a more limited borrowing facility ( 3 books at a time) at a reduced rate of twenty pounds per year.
Distant Membership is available to UK residents people living outside our catchment area of about 20 miles radius. Distant Membership costs £37 per year and a £25 refundable deposit is required and can borrow up to three books at a time.
Books can be Loaned for three weeks at a time by all members. Members can extend the loan period for another three weeks at a time by emailing the librarian with their request and including their membership number. The absolute maximum period for a loan is twelve weeks. Emails for loan renewals should be sent to librarian@libraryofavalon.org.uk
If you are late returning books to the library we will not fine you but you may receive an email from overdue4loa@gmail.com reminding you of your outstanding loans.
